Outside, the night wind moved through the massive stone corridors of the palace. Torches burned quietly upon the carved walls, their flames dancing beneath the dark sky. Guards stood at every entrance with spears in hand, while the palace servants slowly disappeared toward their own quarters after completing the final duties of the night.
